Unexpected Changes in your dotfiles after sudoing something

Look into sudoers(5) and search always_set_home.

This leads you to answers and a cure or two for questions like "Why are some dotfiles of mcedit(1) owned by root after using mcedit(1) via sudo(8)?".

Obviously this applies to many other programs too if used via sudo.
