icons
I've taken the Icons from wiki.bsd-crew.de, Matthias agreed, because they are going to change their Layout soon.
differentiate links
Just a suggestion: the difference between links to existing wiki pages and links to non-existing wiki pages is very hard to see, maybe you can improve this?
- Thanks, I will change the color.
script uploads
I am looking for a place to put a usefull script (or a link to it) : http://download.gna.org/netbsd-intro/sysupdate
- You can now upload Files with ".diff", ".c", ".txt" Extensions and link it sysupdate.txt. Your script is now available in the Shell Scripts Section.
Shouldn't we have a "Script" section as well here ? Maybe a page for people to make and share admin script... dunno...
- Yes, I've just created a Shell Scripts Section and combined the shell hacks into it.
It seems pretty big for a shell hack anyway ;)
Aliases
Hey, I was wondering if it is possible to provide automatic aliases. Unlike Wikipedia we have a case-sensitive article names lookup. I suppose it isn't very useful if someone thinks an article doesn't exist yet when he just typed the wrong case. Maybe provide an auto-redirect?
I ask the same question for real aliases. The wikipedia-style #REDIRECT articlename doesn't work, and some pages really need some aliases (examples include: Category:Hacking and Category:Programming, descriptors and File descriptors, Bourne shell and sh etc. Not to mention plural/singular form, which will help tremendously when using the search function).
>> Hey! >> First of all, I want to thank you for your support and your work. Keep on writing. >> Redirections are working. Please have a look at Ia64, on how to set up one.
Thanks a lot! I added this to the "Editing Help" page
Though, it would be nicer if there's a way to auto-redirect people if the name would match another article if the capitalization would be changed. It's madness to add a redirect for every possible capitalization of articles. In fact, it would be excellent if the system were to do an automatic search if the article didn't exist. (of course, still allowing for the possibility to create a new page with that title, if necessary)
Can this be done?
Number of articles
Hi, it seems like the number of articles mentioned on Main Page includes every thing (talk pages, redirects, ...) Wouldn't it be more relevant displaying the number of "real" articles? The {{NUMBEROFARTICLES}} variable displays the count of articles in the main namespace, excluding redirects and stubs. Ahy1 16:56, 23 June 2006 (CEST)
- Thanks a lot. I just changed it.
RSS/Atom feeds not functioning?
In my bloglines.com account, both the RSS and Atom feeds do not seem to get updated when I add a new page. Is this a bug in (both of!) Bloglines parsers or a wiki problem?
- I just tested both the rss feed and the atom feed, and it seems they are updated with the latest edits. Ahy1 23:35, 25 July 2006 (CEST)
- -They work fine for me. I use Opera to track the changes. Zafer.
- OK, then I'll just blame bloglines :(

A little suggestion
I think the talk pages would be more readable if we followed some simple rules:
- Sign with ~~~~ (4 tildes). This will insert the editor's user name and a time stamp
- When replying to another message, use : (colons) to indent one more level.
Currently, talk pages can be a little difficult to follow. In particular, it is difficult to see who wrote what, in reply to what and when. Ahy1 12:36, 18 August 2006 (CEST)
- Yeah, I know. I haven't cared much about it, because there aren't much discussions. zafer 13:35, 18 August 2006 (CEST)
Help hacking
Actually I'm looking for a wiki hack, that enables to reply on articles, like it is done in php.net. Any Ideas ? zafer 13:37, 18 August 2006 (CEST)
New Server
This wiki will be switching to a more powerful server during September 2006. There will be no downtime, except DNS caches. I will announce the exact date, when I have further information. zafer 13:52, 18 August 2006 (CEST)
Delicious template
With this template, a box under your article appears with links to del.ico.us and digg.com. You can save your favorite articles as a social bookmark. Tell me, what you think about it and if you like it, or if we should remove it ? zafer 16:16, 18 August 2006 (CEST)
- I personally don't use all these newfangled community web2.0 buzzword thingies, but if you do it, why not put it in the menu on the left, or automatically add it to every page? In other words, what are the criteria for putting del.ic.ous/digg links under an article, and when shouldn't you do it? Sjamaan 19:26, 18 August 2006 (CEST)
- Seems to me that support for these things should be in the user's browser and not built into the page itself. Why should non-del.icio.us users have articles cluttered up with that stuff? Plus, you can never count on every site to support your particular 3rd-party tool of choice. Put it in your browser and you will always have it available. ⇔ ChristTrekker 20:39, 2 January 2007 (CET)
- Say what? :) Sjamaan 19:27, 18 August 2006 (CEST)
- Translated from norwegian: "NetBSD's package system, pkgsrc, looks like it works satisfactory. Some important single packages, like Firefox and Subversion, won't build right away, so I have to take a closer look at it." Ahy1 03:23, 20 August 2006 (CEST)
use wikilinks
Can someone please change the offsite ([]) links to intrawiki ([[]]) links? I can't edit the main page. ⇔ ChristTrekker 23:27, 11 December 2006 (CET)
- Admins? Anyone? ⇔ ChristTrekker 17:33, 9 April 2007 (CEST)
- Do you mean to use intrawiki links for the icons ? zafer 17:57, 9 April 2007 (CEST)
- Yes, else they have that odd "pointing square" next to them that denotes an off-site link. It's not only misleading here, but mars the aesthetics of the icons too. ⇔ ChristTrekker 20:35, 9 April 2007 (CEST)
