Bounties

From NetBSD Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

This wikipage will document bounties -- paying for projects related to NetBSD or pkgsrc. A bounty is a payment or an award for accomplishing some specific task. Note that one person doesn't have to pay for entire project, but multiple payers can participate -- especially since pooling of money may be a better incentive. Please outline your specific needs and contact information and document your conversations and plans so others can participate or to know that a project is already in progress.

This wiki (nor its host) nor is NetBSD responsible for these bounties or payments. This is based on an honor system -- feel free to document your experiences here. Payment amounts listed in US dollars unless otherwise specified.

Also note that just because code is written, it may not be appropriate to be committed into NetBSD CVS or maintained by NetBSD. Be sure to be clear about your goals. If a license is not specifically listed, the new code is assumed to have same license as the existing code it is integrated in or [NetBSD's standard license].

BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless

Description: I have the following on my amd64 Compaq Presario V2658US notebook:

vendor 0x14e4 product 0x4318 (miscellaneous network, revision 0x02) at pci2
dev 2 function 0 not configured

It is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller. I used to use it under Linux with ndiswrapper and also with bcm43xx Linux kernel module.

I believe it is supported by OpenBSD's bwi(4) (but I never tested). Also I read on tech-kern in June 2008 that someone started working on it, but I never heard back.

Goal: Support this BCM4318 that is on my laptop. (I'd prefer not to use ndis, but getting ndis working on amd64 seems like a good project too.)

Current bounty: $35

Contributors: Jeremy C. Reed = $35;

Status: not claimed yet. As of 15/Oct/2008, I am using a working patch found via this thread http://mail-index.netbsd.org/current-users/2008/10/15/msg005158.html

Updating COMPAT_LINUX to allow Skype 2.0 audio to work

Description: Currently the audio under Skype 2.0 does not work on NetBSD.

jmcneill & cube have made some progress to the point where audio would sometimes work, but NetBSD's NPTL thread emulation appears to need some work. Potential list::

  1. Newer Linux libraries (for example a fedora-6 pkgsrc package)
  2. The kernel needs to report itself as Linux 2.6.18 or so
  3. Bunch of new emulated syscalls in COMPAT_LINUX

Goal: Able to make and receive calls in Skype

A mail thread on the topic is at: http://mail-index.netbsd.org/netbsd-users/2008/08/19/msg001712.html

Current bounty: $50

Contributors: David Brownlee = $50
